Was playing around with new Tricaster 450 extreme today with kids. unfortunately for them, I hit the record button, about 3:30 into it, the embarrassing video that parents love to keep forever begins… and some really cute audio toward the end… was working on the audio which didn’t get fine tuned today… but some great video…

-I was laid off in Summer, 2004 from an IT position at a law firm. I wanted to modernize my skills after that, so I got a student loan in the late summer and got training for MCSE and Security+ at NH Gainesville. By December, I had completed my certifications and the career advisor at NH helped me build a resume and action plan for getting a new job. I was told to select a region and focus there, so in late winter, I sent out about 100 resumes over standard mail to every IT company I could find, to try to establish a career network in the Research Triangle area in North Carolina. One of those small companies liked what they saw and wanted to interview me. I interviewed with XS, Inc. in early spring. There was no job opening before I sent out the letter, but the CTO was so impressed with me that he offered me a job as a systems administrator the next day on a contract basis. He had been handling all administrative functions for the company y previously, but since the company now had around 22 employees, it was too much for him to handle on a daily basis. After the contract period was over, they hired me full time. Fast forward six years and I’m now the senior network engineer of the same company and have a subordinate of my own who is at about the same place I was when I started my journey. The company has grown to 65 employees and we project we will grow even faster next year and the years to come.
-I completed a MS in Computer Science from Oklahoma State in 1972 and worked in IT for the Air Force and US Department of Energy until 2002. I moved to Gainesville as a telecommuter for a small company in Tennessee with customers in West Va. When the funding for that contract ended I was laid off with no one within 600 miles who could vouch for my managerial skills. After six months of applications and interviews at the managerial level, I decided to re-invent myself as an IT technician and completed the New Horizons MS Desktop Support Technician in about 3 months. Within 3 months I was on part-time at UF. Two months later I was full time without benefits and a year later my salary doubled plus benefits. I still don’t make a lot of money, but I love my work, the technical environment and the people around me.
-Had enough of job to job….so enrolled in NHLC and got my MCSA then transferred onto Graphic Design to learn websites. It has helped me out throughout all these years and looks great on my resume. I am still in constant contact with my school and many great things have come from that one decision!
-Nothing exciting here. Decided to change careers; took some classes; got some certs; went to work; ended up at UF; now an IT Senior. … pretty boring story actually ;-) I really appreciate the training that I received while at New Horizons. I have been fortunate enough to advance rather quickly at UF and that would not have been possible without the training that I received from New Horizons. I would highly recommend New Horizons of North Florida.
